ARGENTINE GROUP OF CW - "GACW"

Under an idea of Alberto U. SILVA, LU1DZ, during the month of June in 1977, a small group of radio-amateurs established, in the nearness of the Buenos Aires city, a social unit called "Argentine Group of CW" with the purpose of divulge, without monetary interest, the radiotelegraph, and to make know, publishing and sending bulletins, organizing competitions, and to defend the radio-amateur’s rights and another activities related. CW is the abbreviation of "continued wave", what conveniently interrupted for period of time make it possible for us to build the dots and the lines belongs to the Morse Code, let the radioelectric DX Communications possible (DX means Communications between great distances).

As time goes by the group gain prestige, and nowadays with the world recognition, merit obtain with perseverance, seriousness and perfectly defined aims, just with the economic and human purpose of the three coordinators and a bit support of 300 adherent members.

The most important task of these group were orientated to contribute by radio Communications to make know the Argentine radio-amateurs in the Antarctic and South Atlantic Ocean Islands, either by our own expeditions or given advices to others like the Scientific Base "Corbeta Uruguay" ( built in the South Sandwich Islands ), we make possible to active the LU3ZY radio-amateur station, which gave to that Argentine remote part of ground its identity, let to thousands all over the world to surpass the reservation almost total, to the light speed, and, this is, precisely the miracle of this type of Communications so simple as transcendent.

LU1DZ were personally in 1983, in the South Shetland Islands, activating the LU3ZI station, achieving more than 20.000 radio-amateurs contacts from more than a hundred countries, another members of the group were in different places of the Antarctic and two years ago LU6UO Hector OMBRONI and LU4AXV Ernesto DURANTE exceeded 23.000 contacts from the South Orkney Islands, putting in the air the LU6Z, it was a great events at international level due to it involved a country-radio out of work for a long period, after this they activated the LU1ZC situated in the Navy Detachment of the Deception Island which is celebrating its 50th. Anniversary, with the support of the "Dirección Nacional del Antártico" and the "Armada Nacional", these institutions have made possible this expedition and the majority of the expeditions made by the group.

It is really important to point out that a commission (DX Advisory Committee) of the the Amateur Radio League of the U.S.A, has assignated the Category of Radio-country; it means that, when a Radio-station of radio-amateurs is activated, in wherever of these places, a person who make it, is deforciant sovereign rights in this place, at least during the period the radio were working, this is why this kind of Communications has its great importance.

A Radio-country identify itself in its Communications with the politic country of its origin or in the worst case as the South Atlantic Islands which title is incorporated to the "Tierra del Fuego" province of the Argentine Republic.

Although the group has no intention of repleay, politic aspects or affairs which were out of the radio-amateurs activities, Argentinean feel all these territories theirs, this is why the GACW activities are easy, because we obtain spontaneous adhesions and furthermore we have to take into account the DX Activities Attraction and the adventure, even though it is clear it isn’t so easy to start each of these adventures because they are complicated and expensive.

From several years ago and now the GACW is ruled by LU1DZ, which manage all the information and the spreading from Buenos Aires, is the preparer and editor of the bulletins, is the radio contacted itself with different institutions all over the world, and is the interview maker also with several managements, etc. He is following by Raúl M DIAZ - LU6EF, who is the QSL manager of the group, in other words He is who control and send all the confirmations (QSL cards) of the Communications made, which rise over 100.000, between all the expeditions finished up today, and furthermore, he broadcasts a radio bulletin weekly (which are over 500 editions) it contain different informations relative to the radio-amateur activities and the radio data, listened patiently by Jorge F. VRSALVICH - LU7XP - From Ushuaia, a place where he is a native, LU7XP organize the necessary negotiations at all the levels with the institutions involved, "Dirección Nacional del Antartico Argentino, Armada Nacional" in order to get the returns travel for all the expeditions.
